Madagascar The Contrasts

DAY 1 ANTANANARIVO, the capital

The starting point of our trip is town of Antananarivo, called TANA.
Meet and welcome at the airport.
Transfer to a hotel in the center.

DAY 2 TANA – PERINET, the rainforest area

After breakfast, you will drive to Perinet.
The nature reserve of Perinet is very famous for its rich flora and fauna.
We visit Perinet in various stages, late in the evening, to observe the nocturnal lemurs, and the next day early in the morning, to see the diurnal lemurs.

DAY 3 PERINET and its surroundings

Early morning walk in the Indri Indri area.
At the reserve of Perinet, we can easily spot the Indri-Indri, the largest lemurs. This site is famous for that. You can hear its calls. Apart from that, there you can also observe a series of birds and different species of lemurs.
The guide will certainly find for you the different species of reptiles like snakes, chameleons and geckos.

DAY 4 PERINET – ANTSIRABE

Today you drive to Antsirabe, the city of the 3000 rickshaw drivers and the semi-precious stones. Drive across the highland area; pass by rice terraces and fruit fields. Visit the workshops regarding the aluminum pots manufacturing and the semi-precious stones processing.
In the surroundings, there are some volcanic lakes and thermal springs.

DAY 5 ANTSIRABE – RANOMAFANA

We continue on the high plateau, pass by terraced rice fields. Visit of the Ethnic Group of Zafimaniry. They make artistic sculpture and carving works. In the afternoon, you will drive through the pine and eucalyptus forests on the Namorona River and finally reach the hotel.

DAY 6 Expedition in the National park

We do some hiking on the paths of the rainforest.
Impressive rainforest experiences. Here, with any luck, we can spot the golden bamboo lemur. The park hosts many endemic birds and other species of lemurs, such as the Brown Lemur.
Depending on the season, you can also admire the orchids in Ranomafana.

DAY 7 RANOMAFANA – RANOHIRA via Fianarantsoa

After breakfast, we continue southwards.
Our current destination is the Isalo Mountains. The countryside alternates with rice fields and vineyards. We reach Ambalavao where we can visit the Antaimoro papermaking. They make a special and a very beautiful paper where some fresh flowers are inserted. In the ANJA Park, you will be closer to the Lemurs Catta. Afterwards, the trip begins with the Horombe plateau and leads to Ranohira.

DAY 8 ISALO mountains

An easy hike through the park leads us to the “Piscine naturelle”, Natural fresh water swimming pool with crystal clear water. Here you can have a wonderful refreshing bath. In the afternoon, you can go through the gorges in the mountains, depending on your mood.

 

 

DAY 9 RANOHIRA – TULEAR

Continue to Tuléar after breakfast, a charming and great landscape.
You can see the great baobab trees and the impressive Mahafaly graves on the way. They are considered as a true work of art thanks to their paintings. You pass by the endemic so-called spiny forest.

DAY 10 TULEAR – ANAKAO

Transfer to the harbour and crossing to Anakao. The peninsula is located in the south of Tuléar, offers the visitors some beautiful beaches, and is suitable for relaxation.

DAY 11 ANAKAO and its surroundings

Morning excursion to the peninsula of Nosy Ve. Often, one can see the great White red-tailed bird fly, and during the hatching season, one can even spot some new-born birds on the island. Apart from that, we can enjoy as well some other activities, such as swimming, stroll along the very clean beach, snorkeling in a very clear sea. The island is uninhabited. Free afternoon.

DAY 12 ANAKAO – TULEAR – TANA

Early morning boat trip back to Tuléar.
Transfer to the airport. Return back by flight to Tana

DAY 13 ANTANANARIVO - DIEGO (ANTSIRANANA)

Depending on the flight schedule, today we fly to Diego Suarez, to the north of the island, the City of „pain de sucre „ (Sugar Loaf), second city in the world where there is the Sugar Loaf apart from Rio de Janeiro.
Diégo is considered as one of the most vigorous and beautiful cities of Madagascar, from the French colonization origins.

DAY 14 DIEGO, the National Park of the Montagne d'Ambre

After breakfast, drive to the National Park of Montagne d’Ambre towards Joffreville. You cross a landscape with mango and tamarind trees.
With its own microclimate, the park houses the tall trees with orchids and ferns, unusual bird species as well as a series of reptiles and two subspecies of brown lemurs. Guided hike to the large waterfall.

DAY 15 MONTAGNE D´AMBRE – ANKARANA EAST

After breakfast, drive to Mahamasina, on the way.
Hike through the Red Tsingy. During about 75 km, we pass by green rice fields and colorful markets towards Anivorano. Arrival at noon. In the afternoon, hike to the small Tsingy and its surroundings.

DAY 16 ANKARANA and its surroundings

After breakfast, we will have a hike to the Tsingy and to the bat cave.

DAY 17 ANKARANA – ANKIFY – NOSY BE

Short hike in the surrondings.
Then continue to Ankify, where you can see the Cacao and the ylang-ylang field as well as the pepper farming and so on and so forth.
Crossing to Nosy Be.
Transfer to the hotel

DAY 18 NOSY BE

Day at leisure.
Hotel overnight stay.

DAY 19 NOSY BE – TANA – PARIS

Transfer to the airport.
Return flight to Tana.
Flight home.
